«Quando uscirà ‘‘Passion of the Christ: Resurrection’’ di Mel Gibson?» è una domanda in corso dal 2016. Allo stato attuale non lo sappiamo, non esiste una data di pubblicazione ufficiale; sappiamo tuttavia che il film esiste ed è in fase di realizzazione. Ma a che punto siamo? È possibile saperlo se si riesce a scoprire quel piccolo, macroscopico, pezzettino di informazione che viene distribuito su base annua; se si riesce a cogliere quella piccola goccia d’acqua che scroscia, silenziosa e cadente dal cielo, allora è possibile sapere cosa stia avvenendo. Per il resto, ci sono io.
Eravamo rimasti all’update del 12 gennaio 2021. Il progetto era ancora in fase di pre-produzione. Still a work in progress, si diceva. Jim Caviezel aveva ricevuto la terza bozza dello script ed aveva affermato che il film sarebbe stato «The biggest movie in History». Sono giunte una nuova, piccola, serie di informazioni, sufficientemente consistenti da poterne parlare.
Mel Gibson ha parlato del sequel ospite del programma televisivo “The World End”, avvenuto il 7 aprile 2022, con Raymond Arroyo. Chiunque, all’interno del mio blog, abbia seguito la copertura mediatica del progetto ‘‘Passion of the Christ II’’, potrebbe ritrovare familiare il nome di Raymond Arroyo. Mel Gibson ha partecipato al programma televisivo per la promozione del film “Father Stu”, la storia del boxer Stuart Long che divenne sacerdote, diretto da Rosalind Ross e distribuito il 13 aprile.
“So che stai lavorando al sequel” afferma Arroyo al minuto 10.49.
ARROYO: “Che stai facendo? Dov’è “The Resurrection’’?”
MEL: Beh, è un soggetto enorme, non è.. non è una narrativa lineare, ed è fatto apposta così in modo da poter significare qualcosa per tutti coloro che lo guarderanno o quasi; come già successo, non sarà fatto per qualcuno che è già credente di suo. Devi avere.. devi giustapporre l’evento centrale che sto cercando di raccontare, con tutto quello che c’è attorno, nel futuro, nel passato ed in «altre realtà» (si riferisce alle realtà dopo-morte, Nd Fabio), e ci manca poco che diventi un po’ sci-fi. È una storia enorme. È un concetto difficile. E mi ci è voluto tanto tempo per concentrarmi e trovare un modo per raccontare la storia in una maniera tale che significhi qualcosa per qualcuno che potrebbe non sapere assolutamente nulla della storia principale.
ARROYO: Quando possiamo aspettarci la sceneggiatura pronta, Mel?
MEL: Dunque, ho due sceneggiature.
ARROYO: Randy Wallace ne ha scritta una.
MEL: Si, ed un altro amico ne ha fatta un’altra. Le ho entrambe, e sono entrambe buone.
ARROYO: E adesso devi mischiare il mazzo.
MEL: Una specie. È più o meno così. In più, devi aggiungere il tuo tocco, la tua sensibilità personale. E c’è un sacco di materiale da cui attingere, credimi.
Questo è tutto.
Per chiunque non lo sapesse, una singola pellicola necessita di una sola sceneggiatura: Mel Gibson dovrà dunque scegliere quale tra le due adoperare o quale versione definitiva far venire fuori tra i due script disponibili. Il progetto è dunque in fase di sviluppo e Mel Gibson ha tra le mani due sceneggiature; si può logicamente dedurre che la fase di pre-produzione non sia ancora terminata e che la lavorazione dello script finale – su cui sarà basata la fase di principal photography (le riprese) – prosegua.
Si può supporre, secondo un principio logico, che il film certamente non uscirà nel 2022 né tantomeno nel 2023. Presumo, anteponendo una deduzione personale, che possa venire distribuito nel 2024, in linea con il 20° anniversario dell’originale. Ne sapremo di più nel corso del tempo. Quel che è certo che la pellicola non uscirà quest’anno.
Nuovamente, Passion of the Christ: Resurrection genera aspettative altisonanti e detiene il monopolio dei film faith-based più attesi al mondo. Attendiamo nella speranza di poterlo vedere, prima di qualsiasi risvolto storico, politico o apocalittico. O anche dopo.

In this interview he talks briefly about the Resurrection as well. He talked about the movie coming out in a couple of years, which would be 2024. It would be symbolic for the movie to come out after 20 years of the first one.

If the movie will come out in a couple of year, then it’s more than likely to see it for the 20° Anniversary of the original. And that would be a truly significant date of release, as you just said. 🙂 I absolutely believe that the movie will be released in 2024. I have this feeling since last year.

“sci-fi” is a science fiction movie?
When Mel Gibson mentioned that he will speak of the future, I wondered if he could make any mention of the Glorious Return of Jesus. It would be awesome! Because the end of the History of Salvation will be with the Return of Christ with the Last Judgment, so I hope they don’t forget to mention that.
Also because in the book of Beata that Gibson was inspired by, this part is briefly mentioned and it is said that Jesus talked with the Devil in hell and it was said that 60 or 50 years before the year 2000 he would be released from hell. 😬

Yes, “sci-fi” means science fiction. It was said in a metaphorical sense, because Gibson was talking about the spiritual «realms» (Hell, Purgatory, Heaven). I don’t know if the Second Return of Jesus will be in the script and thus seen in the movie, but I personally believe it’s unlikely. 🙂
Maybe, when he spoke about “the future”, there will be others events post-Resurrection like the Ascension of Jesus!

I understood what Mel meant. Have you ever read the book by Blessed Ana Catariia Emmerck in the part that Jesus descends to the Bosom of Abraham and Hell? I’ts very interesting.
I believe Gibson can mention something about the Return of Jesus. He already used a verse in Revelation in the first one, but let’s see what he means.

So we should be rewarded, because we’ve been waiting since 2016. But I trust Gibson (I’ve been praying for him) and I think he wants to beat the first one, that’s why it’s taking so long.
I highly recommend that you read Beata’s book, at least in the part that Jesus went to Hell and the Bosom of Abraham. You can find it online available on the internet too😅
Mel must be drawing inspiration from these visions to make the film.

I can’t wait to see a trailer, a poster, a release date or even a simple pic taken from the shooting. I believe the movie is going to be the greatest of all, a truly masterpiece. I can bet on that 🙂

It’s an uncommon way to say “to try to do”, meaning – I guess – that he will push the movie a bit further in the production process. So he’s basically saying that “He will try to do it once and for all”.
He has been saying the same thing over and over in the last years. Now it is time to move further and gives more. It is time for Gibson to make this movie reality!

At the end of the video interview, he says “There is no point in doing it unless it works”. Translated: if it doesn’t work, I’m not gonna do it.
I’m afraid there is a subtle, slightly, little chance the movie will never be done 😦

Yes, I think Mel prefers not to do it if the movie doesn’t turn out to be a spectacle, so he needs our prayers. Sometimes people may think that it is an exaggeration to pray for a film, but I believe that it can be an instrument of a lot of conversion. It will make many people stop and think.
