È stata lanciata una bomba – non una testata nucleare o l’atomica Mk1 Little Boy – ma una bomba verbale, dialettica, scaturita da una singola affermazione. Una di quelle affermazioni che generano reazioni emotive immediate e scalpore mediatico nella mente di chi legge: Mel Gibson e Jim Caviezel han parlato nuovamente di “The Passion of the Christ: Resurrection” , sequel de La Passione di Cristo, in fase di creazione dal 2016. Ancor prima di conoscere gli ultimi aggiornamenti, ripercorriamo la genesi storica di quest’opera, che sembra non venire mai alla luce, come un bimbo che permane nel grembo a oltranza, senza volerne sapere di uscire fuori.
Agosto 2016 – Maggio 2022: una ricostruzione cronologica essenziale
“The Passion of the Christ Resurrection” viene annunciato il 28 agosto 2016 durante la trasmissione televisiva con Greg Laurie 1. Il 29 gennaio 2018, Jim Caviezel comunicò ad USA Today 2 di essere stato assunto nuovamente per interpretare Gesù. Il 22 marzo 2020 rilasciò un intervista a Fox News 3 e il 10 settembre ne rilasciò un ulteriore a Breitbart News Daily 4; in entrambe, l’attore parlò del film affermando che sarebbe stato «il più grande nella storia del mondo». Mel Gibson parlò nuovamente del film il 30 dicembre 2020 a Raymond Arroyo 5 e il 7 aprile 2022 al programma televisivo “The World End” 6, asserendo che fosse un progetto difficile – «a big subject» – e che stesse ancora lavorando alla sceneggiatura. Nello stesso giorno rilascia un’intervista a Megan Basham, di Daily Wire 7.

Il 29 maggio 2022, Mel Gibson ebbe modo di partecipare ad un evento nella città di Glasgow, parlando del sequel. Il video dell’evento è stato pubblicato sul canale di Mihael Orehovec. Qui afferma: «Ci sto lavorando, è molto difficile.. è davvero un soggetto molto difficile; ci sono cose che sono enormemente sovrannaturali e devi realizzarle in modo che siano comprensibili, affinchè la gente ci si possa relazionare in un modo che non le alieni in nessun modo; il film dev’essere trattato con i guanti di velluto, e dev’essere fatto nella maniera giusta… a cosa corrisponda “nella maniera giusta” non lo so con certezza, ma ci proverò anche se potrei fallire; ci darò un tentativo».
Nel mese di settembre Mel Gibson rilascia un’intervista con Mola, canale video asiatico. Ed è qui che dichiara: «È in fase di lavorazione. È molto difficile, molto difficile.. non è facile da fare, come per La Passione. È un soggetto molto, molto più grande. È molto più difficile da realizzare, in una maniera tale che un audience mainstream ci si possa relazionare; stiamo parlando di cose incredibili che accadono e devi trovare un modo per farle e filmarle. Questo è il mio lavoro. Devo essere capace di eseguirlo in un modo che tutti possano sedersi e vederlo. Non è facile. Sopratutto quando hai a che fare con questo concetto enorme, sai, soltanto l’idea della resurrezione, la spiritualità, altri reami (Paradiso, Purgatorio e Inferno, nd Fabio). È un soggetto enorme. Non è facile da finanziare. Non so quando uscirà. Non c’è motivo di farlo se non funziona.».
La dichiarazione, seppur soggetta a molteplici interpretazioni, fa vacillare la certezza d’esistenza del progetto ed apre le porte alla possibilità che non venga mai realizzato.

Un rumor pubblicato su world of reel 1, indicava che le riprese sarebbero iniziate presto, forse a metà anno, tra la primavera e l’estate.

Il 3 aprile, Mel Gibson ha rilasciato un’intervista a Outstanding Screenplay pubblicata sul canale youtube. Più certo e deciso sullo stato del progetto, il regista ha rilasciato una serie di dichiarazioni interessanti, capaci di ravvivare la certezza che questo film si farà.
“È un’impresa massiva. Non puoi farla in modo leggero e veloce. Devi davvero considerare di cosa hai bisogno da mostrare in modo da essere commovente.”
In aggiunta, Gibson ha confermato la presenza di Jim Caviezel nel ruolo di Cristo, ha discusso del processo di scrittura, al quale lavora con Randall Wallace e ha affermato, come già esposto in passato, l’esistenza di due sceneggiature:
“Ho due sceneggiature, ed una delle due è davvero molto strutturata e molto forte, ed è più o meno quello che ti aspetteresti, mentre l’altra è come un trip acido. Perchè ci sono altre realtà e robe simili. Voglio dire, sei all’inferno e stai guardando la caduta degli angeli. È pazzesco.”
Il 3 luglio, è infine stata pubblicata un’intervista a Jim Caviezel, all’opera per la promozione del film “Sound of Freedom”, dove l’attore ha affermato: «La scrittura (del film, Nd Fabio) è in corso. Ho chiesto a Mel se era pronto a partire per gennaio, ha risposto “si, forse”; “alla fine di autunno?”, “si, forse”; “settembre?”, “si, beh… forse”. È davvero un tipo divertente. L’ultima volta, mi aveva detto che non sarebbe stato pronto fino a gennaio, mentre ora siamo finiti per settembre o ottobre. Quindi, chi lo sa […] ci sta lavorando da tanto, tanto tempo, sarà il più grande film della storia. Potrebbero esserci 2 film, potrebbero essercene anche 3, ma penso 2»
Allo stato attuale, The Passion of the Christ Resurrection è in fase di pre-produzione avanzata, o perlomeno si deduce che lo sia, le dichiarazioni recenti indicano che le riprese si avvicinino e la data di uscita sembra intravedersi, stagliandosi sulla linea dell’orizzonte futuro, seppur sbiadita e incerta. È probabile che il film si avvii, in maniera definitiva, verso il sospirato ed agognato compimento.
Con ogni probabilità non uscirà per il periodo pasquale del 2024; il periodo pasquale successivo, il 2025, potrebbe essere un ipotesi. Attendiamo l’uscita del film, che si sta facendo attendere in maniera analoga alla seconda venuta di Cristo: per quanto tempo possa passare, avverrà!

Jim Caviezel said he can’t tell you when the film will be released, so the script should finally be ready! Because he didn’t answer that they were still working on the script, as he always replied, besides saying that he already saw several scenes.
It looks like FINALLY the filming should already have a date to start!!

I saw this article and as it talks about filming in Rome and Mexico, I think there may be some truth to it, because remember that Gibson went to Mexico to see if he could film there? So it could be that they will film in Italy and Mexico.

I sent you this article because it states something that has not yet been confirmed. Mexican actor Eduardo had said that he invited Gibson to visit a location in his country, but we didn’t know if he really liked it and was going to choose the location to film.

It could be either in Italy or in Mexico. Years ago I had even read the movie was going to be filmed in Marocco and Tunisia 😀
I strongly believe they will film it in Italy, just like the first one, to keep the “visual” continuity with the original movie. Maybe, in addition to that, they will have some others places to go, like Mexico.

Yes, there is nothing official and I don’t know if they will officially disclose where they will film to avoid onlookers and paparazzi. As for Filming in Morocco, I think this was pure invention, because it was also said that they would release the film in 2019, and the script wasn’t even ready and the actor Eduardo also said that he asked Mel where he intended to film, to which Gibson replied that he thought it would be in Italy again and it was then that he invited him to visit a place in Mexico.

Yes, you are right, and I’m trying not to be “obsessed” with it anymore. Still interested, of course and as always, but I will leave it there until when we will not have enough information about filming and release date. Will keep looking on it always and ever but with less constancy.
I don’t need the same repeated interview by Gibson where he says the same chorus over and over; now it is time for official and consistent information, with something more solid and real – not the same “It’s gonna take 2 years”.
If Gibson will keep working on pre-production with no filming ahead, we’d probably get the Second Coming before the release of the movie 😀

Hi there again Samantha; I have just known the follow news: «the film will be shot between Rome and Mexico starting in the spring of 2024» with a hypothetical release tentatively set for the end of 2025.

Hi Samantha, How are you? It seems like the movie is finally coming. Or at least that’s the impression. I have read somewhere that the principal photography was started on April 2023, as we knew last year, and that the movie will come out on 18 April 2025. Let’s see if it’s all real or not.
They have also added the page on wikipedia again, years after it was removed. Hope the movie will finally come out any soon.
